Meet Alice Pedersen

Alice at The Wooden Buoy

When you visit the Wooden Buoy on Water Street in Yarmouth, let your eyes lead you to the happiest and most colourful corner of the shop and you'll be amongst sisters Alice and Annie Pedersen's treasures.

"Our style of vintage is bright and colourful. We love red, we love blue, we love turquoise, all the colours of the '50s," says Alice.

The Pedersen sisters grew up in a Danish family and their love of the mid-century modern style was fostered from an early age.

"Mid-century stuff was always in our home. We grew up looking at it and loving it and it just carried on," she says.

Alice says she was just gathering kitschy items for her own collection until last May when the Wooden Buoy opened. Now she and her sister are in the business of selling their cute treasures.

Their collection includes colourful kitchen items, anything bearing the image of a cute animal, and even old radios and TVs.

"Anything just as long as it's mid-century," Alice says.

She's looking forward to being a vendor at the SeaSalt Antiques and Vintage Market on June 13. She says she likes meeting new people and being a part of the community.

"I'm excited to let people know that we're here and that we love our shop and I'm sure they'd love it too if they came in and had a look."
